The Twin Cities Regional Kitchen Table
SHIP members represent diverse personal experiences navigating the homeless response system within the seven metro county regions of Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington. To unify efforts, they have invited government partners, non-profit agencies, and other members of lived experience and CoC representatives to assist in designing a prevention system that makes sense to the individuals and families that need help the most.
Policy Change & Advocacy
“The gap between policymakers, service providers, and those experiencing homelessness can be wide, often leading to miscommunication and ineffective solutions. Individuals with lived experience [like SHIP Members] act as bridges, facilitating better communication and understanding between various stakeholders. Our ability to relate to both the struggles of homelessness and the perspectives of those working toward justice creates a more cohesive and collaborative environment.”

TWIN CITIES REGION PREVENTION DEFINITION
“Keeping people from experiencing housing instability by being proactive, engaging all sectors to collaborate with one another, and transforming systems to think of homelessness as a community issue.”
System Modeling & Fostering Community Connections
SHIP Collaborative provides expertise and perspective. When we engage in system modeling, we want to help lead the community in designing a model that is comprehensive and innovative, with a framework aimed at effectively addressing and ultimately ending homelessness. This approach emphasizes the importance of community involvement and local initiatives, harnessing the collective efforts of individuals and groups to create sustainable solutions that empower those in need. By fostering collaboration and resource sharing, we can build robust support networks that not only mitigate the immediate challenges of homelessness but also lay the groundwork for long-lasting change.
Lived Experience Coalition Building
SHiP is building a partnerships across lived-experience advocacy networks to establish a Twin Cities lived experience coalition. These relationships consolidate our identity’s interests and strategies as we engage with bureaucrats, elected officials, service providers, and funders. Our efforts are dedicated to ensuring we build a collaborative agenda, collective strategy, and share an accomplishable advocacy strategy across the metro.
